I’m totally flabbergasted by the reactions to the TexMate’s halloween theme, active only for a few days. I mean, can people, supposedly educated (They use Macs and TexMate ;), be so humorless and short sighted?
To make the story short, Allan Odgaard, the TextMate’s dev, changed the icon and added a spider web instead of TextMate’s logo on empty Project window. Big deal.
Fig. 1: Offensive icon.
Almost everybody found it funny, but some found it offensive. Yeah, really, offensive!
A certain Kyle goes as far as explaining that
(…)the roots of Halloween are in animal and human sacrifices as well as rape in the name if Satan (sic). This is not just something that happened hundreds of years ago, this happens today in abundance; in the U.S. Canada and UK.(…)
Wow. Halloween’s human sacrifices and rapes are abundant in the U.S. Canada and UK! I was not aware of that. Damn pumpkins!
3 words:
Some even filed a bug report for it! Check Allan’s log when he brought back the normal TM look:
[REMOVED] TextMate no longer pays tribute to human sacrifices, rape, nor does it show a picture of the God of the dead in your dock – ticket 945BEB5D
Thanks Pumpkin for people with a sens of humor.
NB: I can understand people who need to work and are a bit distracted by the change, but it takes only 5 seconds to change an icon in OS X and 10 seconds to find the original one on Google (It’s the second result) if you don’t have it already.
