Big Changes

I’m back online, my ADSL line has been transfered today.
My girlfriend, me, our two cats and three trucks (!) of various stuff are now in our new house. I sold my iMac G5 20” and my PowerBook G4 12” and just ordered a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 17”, so I have to move all my digital life too. Much less physical than moving the boxes, but still a lot of work and as I move from PPC to Intel, I have a lot of things to recompile too.

After a lot of thoughts, I chose to go for a MBP 17” to replace both my iMac and my PowerBook because I couldn’t keep them in sync anyway. I’ll probably buy a bigger monitor later when I can spare a little money for it (mortgage comes first now). BTW, did you notice that a MacBook Pro 17” is almost as expensive as an Imac 20” AND a MacBook? Ouch.

New neighborhood, new home, new computer, new CPU architecture.
Big changes!

The 17" Core 2 Duo MBP is the greatest thing since sliced bread! I was on the waiting list for mine and picked it up the first day they were in the stores. Been on cloud 9 ever since. I honestly haven't thought about the money since the first boot up...

I still have my 20" G5 iMac and feel bad b/c I never even look at it anymore :(

A very handy app for the Intel Macs is Xslimmer. You'll want to dump all the PPC code out of binaries to save as much space out of your 160GB that you can.

Enjoy!!!

Hi erb and thanks for posting,

Although I owned dozens of Macs I agree that the MBP is impressive! And not only because it’s the latest and greatest…

I wanted to trim the FAT (no, Universality?) for some time and you pushed me to do it. 1.63GB saved is not bad!

I’m almost done with the migration, but I lost some time playing with Fedora Core 6 and other systems in Parallels Desktop. ;)

Your blog uses a great theme, BTW.
